Helen Grant uses commonplace signs and symbols such as arrows, crosses and punctuation marks as the basis for sculptures that question how we relate to and receive information from art, and from each other. The very obvious messages that her sculptures convey seem to be only part of what they are saying, with their surface-level simplicity drawing attention to what is implied.
During her December residency at The Launderette Helen will add to existing artworks with new ones made onsite by herself and visitors. She will offer some respite from pressures of the festive season to fellow ‘women of a certain age’ by hosting relaxed, found-object sculpture making sessions.
